Daksha Chokshi, Chair
Daksha is a Technical Fellow in the discipline of Statistical Methods & Quality Technologies for United Technologies (UTC) Pratt & Whitney Division in West Palm Beach, Florida. She chairs and provides technical leadership to United Technologies Corporation's Process Certification (ProCert) Council, comparable to the industry's Six Sigma Program. She is an ambassador, driving force, and key contributor to launch and diffuse ProCert throughout UTC. She is recognized for her outstanding contributions and leadership in Statistical Methods and Quality Technologies discipline; for excellence in research, mentoring, and education in sound qualitative as well as quantitative data driven methodologies; and for developing innovative techniques for non traditional applications for aligning customer needs to business requirements and technical capabilities.
Daksha is a doctoral candidate in Industrial Engineering from the University of Miami. She holds three Masters Degrees, one in Management of Technology, one in Industrial Engineering and another in Mathematical Statistics. She is also a Certified Design for Six Sigma Black Belt.
Daksha has authored many technical publications and served as speaker and manager for many technical sessions. She is an American Society for Quality (ASQ) Fellow, member of the American Statistical Association (ASA), and past Treasurer of the Statistics Division. She has previously served on Fall Technical Conference Program Committee and managed Annual Quality Congress Statistics division tracks. |

Vijay Nair, Chair-Elect
Vijay Nair is the Donald A. Darling Professor of Statistics and Professor of Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He has been Chair of the Department of Statistics since 1998. Previously, he was a Research Scientist in the Mathematical Sciences and Operations Research Centers at Bell Laboratories for 15 years. Dr. Nair has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Malaya and a Ph. D. in Statistics from the University of California, Berkeley.
Vijay’s research interests include engineering statistics (quality improvement, reliability, design and analysis of industrial experiments, and process control), information technology (modeling and analysis of computer and communication networks and sensor networks), and design of behavioral intervention studies. He also has extensive consulting experience on a broad range of problems in the automotive, semiconductor, and telecommunications industries.
Vijay is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Statistical Association, and the Institute for Mathematical Statistics. He is a former editor of Technometrics and of the International Statistical Review. He has served (or is serving) as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the National Institute Statistical Sciences, vice-president of International Institute of Statistics, and a member of the National Academies’ Committee on National Statistics. |

Doug Hlavacek, Past Chair
Doug Hlavacek is the Lean Six Sigma Training Director at Ecolab, a global leader of cleaning, sanitation and service solutions for the hospitality, institutional and industrial markets. Doug joined Ecolab in 2000 and leads the development, coordination, implementation and improvement of Ecolab’s enterprise-wide Lean Six Sigma training process.
Prior to Ecolab, Doug worked at 3M, Imation and Kraft General Foods in various consulting, training, and project leadership capacities. Doug has received excellence, quality and divisional awards for his use of statistical methods. These efforts have helped to accelerate the development of new products, reduce product variation through increased process understanding, and successfully defend against a lawsuit by providing objective evidence to refute a competitor's claim.
Doug received his MS in Statistics from Virginia Tech (1979) and BA in Mathematics from Rutgers University (1977). His primary areas of interest are in statistical education, experimental design, graphical display and statistical process control. Doug is a member of ASA, Senior member of ASQ, past Secretary of the Statistics Division and has been a Certified Quality Engineer since 1988. |

Bill Rodebaugh, Treasurer
Bill has almost twenty years of corporate experience with refining, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries. Over a decade ago, Bill began his work in the field of Six Sigma as a part of the AlliedSignal launch. As he was earning his MBB certification at AlliedSignal, Bill ventured into Production Management as Superintendent of a large chemical facility in Philadelphia. Wanting to combine his experiences, Bill became a Six Sigma consultant, training, mentoring, and building programs both in the US and abroad. He then directed a Six Sigma program at a US chemical company before venturing into an IT Six Sigma role in the Pharmaceutical industry.
Bill’s career experience includes positions in and consultancies with both large and small companies. He has led managers and directors as well as shift forepersons and hourly employees. Bill has experience within operations, IT, supply chain, and financial functions as a leader, contributor, or project consultant. Bill’s training experience consists of bringing Six Sigma and Lean concepts from the shop floor to the executive level.
Bill holds an MBA and a BS in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University. He is also a Certified Quality Engineer. |

Mindy Hotchkiss, Secretary
Mindy Hotchkiss is the Technical Lead for the Statistics Group at Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne in West Palm Beach, FL, a division of United Technologies (UTC). Primary areas of interest are assessment of risks for extreme events and analysis of sparse datasets in support of business and engineering decisions. Her diverse workload includes statistical process control and process improvement activities, as well as reliability, modeling, and uncertainty analyses. Mindy received her M.S. in Statistics from North Carolina State University and has a B.S. with a double major in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Florida. She also has an MBA from the University of Florida. She is a member of the American Statistical Association as well as ASQ and is a Certified Reliability Engineer. |

Scott Kowalski, Vice Chair - Products & Services
Scott Kowalski is a Technical Training Specialist at Minitab Inc. His main role is teaching statistics with MINITAB to corporations in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Scott is also involved in software development at Minitab Inc. Before joining Minitab Inc., he worked for two years in academics: one year for Stetson University and one year for the University of Central Florida, where, in addition to teaching, he was the Associate Director of the Statistics Institute.
Scott received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Florida. His concentration was on design of experiments and response surface methodology. His dissertation and continued research focuses on designing industrial experiments with hard to change factors. Scott is a member of ASQ and the American Statistical Association. In addition, he is on the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Quality Technology. |

Mark Kiel, Vice Chair - Outreach
Mark Kiel is a member of the Iron Technology Group for United States Steel. He is a 40-year veteran of the steel industry with six years currently at US Steel's Gary Works in Gary, Indiana. US Steel's Blast Furnace Division supplies the raw material, Iron, needed for steelmaking. Mark is a Metallurgical Engineer with a career that has covered all forms of iron and steel making, including BOF Steelmaking, Primary Rolling, Hot Rolling, Cold Rolling, Plating and further processing. His responsibilities have included statistical analysis, process control, supplier quality, and quality systems coordinator.
Mark received his B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology, in Chicago, Illinois. He has been a member of ASQ since 1988, active in the Statistics Division since 1991, a Senior member of ASQ, and a Certified Quality Engineer. Mark has served the Division as Bulletin Board Administrator, made the Division's first web site as Webmaster, served on the FTC Program Committee and served as FTC Program Chair, Divisions AQC Session Manager and Vice Chair Outreach.
Mark is Past Chair of the ASQ Statistics Division and the Illiana Section, a member of the Iron & Steel Society, Past President of the local Chamber of Commerce and serves his community as a member of the Village Planning Commission and a Park District Board Member. |
